A Bittersweet Milestone

Today was a day of mixed emotions. Mia lost her first tooth, a milestone that filled my heart with pride and nostalgia. As I took pictures of her beaming smile, holding her tiny tooth, memories of D'Koda's first tooth loss flooded my mind. Before I knew it, tears streamed down my face, and I struggled to breathe.

Seeking a moment to compose myself, I stepped back into the laundry room. But Mia, sensing something was amiss, followed me and asked, "Are you happy?" I forced a smile, wiping away my tears. Andri chimed in, "Those are happy tears, Mia." And then, Andri wrapped me in a warm hug and said  "I gave Mia a dollar because I'm her tooth fairy." My heart swelled with love and gratitude.

The moment was bittersweet, but the laughter that followed was pure joy. Mia's curiosity got the better of her, and she asked, "So, the tooth fairy isn't real?" We all burst out laughing, and the tension was broken. As we went about our day, Mia was hesitant to eat, fearing food would get stuck in the gap where her tooth once was. Her innocence and logic made me chuckle. 🧚‍♂️ 🧚🏾‍♀️
