Let's dive into a fascinating case. We're exploring the story of Derrick Groves, the last man standing after a daring escape from the Orleans Parish Justice Center. Groves, 28, was one of 10 inmates who broke out, but while his fellow escapees have been recaptured and are now being held at a maximum-security state prison, Groves remains at large with no leads.

--Let's take a closer look at his story.--

Derrick was born on June 19, 1997, and grew up in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans. [The Ninth Ward is known to be dangerous because of its high crime rate.]

Groves dropped out of school in the ninth grade. In 2014, at the age of 17, he was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder, but after being in jail for two years; his case resulted in an acquittal.

It seems to me that Derrick lost his faith in the criminal justice system OR maybe he never respected it because of his grandmother's death in 1994.

(His grandmother, Kim Groves, reported that a crooked cop beat up a teenager and the officer ordered her death. She was killed in front of her family.)

------‐------------------------------
On February 13, 2018, what started as a festive Mardi Gras block party took a turn. Derrick and another man opened fire with AK-47s in the middle of the crowd, reportedly due to an ongoing feud with drug dealers. Two young men lost their lives in the chaos.

Not long after, Derrick took to social media—posting videos showing off the guns he used and even rapping about the shootings, essentially admitting to the crimes online. The FBI, who had already been keeping an eye on his activity, took notice. In 2019, Derrick pleaded guilty to federal drug trafficking charges.

Fast forward to October 24, 2024: Derrick Groves was convicted of second-degree murde for both men. Given the seriousness of the charges, he’s likely to be behind bars for the rest of his life.

Derrick has a reputation for being intimidating. Several witnesses have claimed they were threatened or even physically attacked by him.

To be honest, Groves comes across as a real menace to society—and he seems to be fully aware of it. That kind of self-aware danger is what makes someone especially concerning.

I did come across a Facebook account that might be his—though it could very well be fake. On it, someone claiming to be him says they’re “in the woods somewhere.” There’s no way to confirm it, but considering his history of using social media to basically confess to crimes, it’s hard to dismiss completely.

So what’s going on here? Was Derrick actually the mastermind behind the escape? And if his own family is telling him to turn himself in—and I haven’t had any contact with him—then who’s helping him now?

Do I think he’ll be caught? Honestly, it’s hard to say but if he was the mastermind of this, then maybe he will not be CAUGHT for AWHILE but EVENTUALLY!---

What are your thoughts? 🤔

I'm not sure what's more surprising, the escape or the fact that he's been on the run for so long.

Since he was possibly the mastermind this time he was prepared. If they catch him it maybe years because he knows the ins and outs of the fbi and how they’re coming. He had time to sit and think. Great review!
