God Changed My Story: How I Chose Peace, Purpose, and Freedom in 2025
At the start of this year, I prayed one of the boldest prayers I’ve ever prayed:
“God, don’t let me make it to 29 if it’s going to be the same as the years before. I need something different. I need my story to change.”
It was New Year’s Eve, and I had no idea how soon that change would begin. . .
That night, I found myself in a Burger King drive-thru, being yelled at—again. When I told him to stop yelling, he only got louder. He threatened to hit me. I warned him that if he ever put his hands on me again, he was going to jail. He sped off, driving wildly, trying to scare me like always. But I was numb to that behavior by then.
When we got home, he snatched me up and broke the doorknob off our bedroom door. I ignored him the rest of the night, but right before midnight, I cried quietly and said to God, “So, it’s going to be the same thing. Cool.”
But just before 12am; he turned to me and said, “Let’s not bring in the new year like this. I’m tired of us being at odds.” We cuddled, went to sleep, and for a moment, I thought maybe things would change.
When I woke up, it was the same chaos.
That’s when I made one goal for 2025: get out of that relationship before it killed me.
Breaking Free
By February, I filed for divorce. It was one of the hardest and most freeing decisions I’ve ever made. My next goal was to become a manager at Dollar Tree since I was already an assistant manager. I was told the promotion would come between August and October, and I held onto that hope.
But God had other plans.
He told me from the start that the job was only meant to last six months. By June—my sixth month—everything became clear. Stories and book ideas filled my head constantly, but I kept trying to balance it all. Then, after being assaulted at work, I realized it was time to walk away.
Still, I stayed out of loyalty for another month—to a company that didn’t value me.
Choosing Myself
Going through a divorce, healing from over a decade of abuse, raising my children, and staying on top of my son’s treatment—it was a lot. But I kept saying, “Okay, God.”
And when I say God carried me, I mean it.
I used my savings to hire the best lawyer in town. I got divorced in six months. I cut ties with people who weren’t for me. My phone barely rings now—and that peace is priceless.
I even tried to go back to work once, but the owner told me I didn’t belong at his company. He was right. I don’t belong in spaces that don’t value purpose over a paycheck.
That moment confirmed it: I wasn’t meant to go back to a regular 9-to-5. My work had to have meaning. It had to align with what God was calling me to do.
The Year Everything Changed
It’s only October, and I’ve already accomplished every goal I set for myself this year:
✅ Got divorced
✅ Lost weight
✅ Grew closer to my children
✅ Networked
✅ Became more comfortable on camera
✅ Listened more, talked less
✅ Published multiple books
✅ Focused on myself
✅ Got certified
✅️ Got Published Worldwide
And this December, I’ll achieve my final goal—graduating with honors and accepting a job in my field.
My Message to You
If there’s one thing I’ve learned this year, it’s that you can survive anything with God.
No matter how broken things look, He always has the final say. He can take the most painful chapters of your life and turn them into the beginning of your purpose.
Don’t give up on yourself. Don’t settle for the same story year after year. When you ask God to change your story—be ready, because He will.
God didn’t just rewrite my story—He made me the author of it.❤️
