Movie Review: "The Available Wife"

The Available Wife available on Tubi!!

⚠️SPOILER ALERT ⚠️

Let’s get into it. From the title alone, I was already looking at the wife sideways. The movie opens with her narrating her backstory: her mother was a gold digger and a deadbeat, while her father (played by the legendary Clifton Powell—honestly the only reason I gave this movie a chance) was her everything.

She wanted to be a singer, but she was mediocre as her husband stated. Her husband, on the other hand, was a successful music producer. At first, their marriage seemed fine—they had a child together, and things looked stable. But over time, cracks showed. Deep down, I think she was jealous of her husband’s success because she never made it in the industry. He cheated on her, but instead of leaving, she forced the relationship to continue, likely for the sake of keeping both parents in the home. Still, I don’t think she ever truly loved him; she saw the stability and money, but eventually, boredom set in.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, she decided she wanted her own spotlight. She ended up with a record label, but let’s be real—this was a classic case of sleeping your way to the top. The movie doesn’t outright show it, but it strongly implies that she “got around.” Her best friend tried to support her, but honestly, the wife wasn’t a good person to be around. She was consumed with ambition and willing to do anything for fame, which made her dangerous. Her father raised her better than that, and while she didn’t want to become her mother, by the middle of the movie, she had surpassed her mother’s worst traits.
Things took a strange turn when her label signed a new client. The twist? She didn’t even know how to run a record company and was basically being played. On top of that, she was very close to the man who gave her the record deal. Later, it’s revealed that she had actually forged his signature to gain control of the company. She was also sleeping with him—an older man she claimed made her do terrible things, though the movie never clarified what those were.

If that wasn’t enough, the client she signed turned out to be the man’s son, and yes, she was sleeping with him too. She even considered leaving her husband for the son. At this point, the drama was packed to the brim. The son ended up killing someone for her, while she got caught up in fraud and forgery.

The entire movie is told through her narration from prison. In the end, she says that once she’s released, she’ll “do better next time.” But honestly, it came across like she hadn’t learned a thing and would just scam her way back to the top again.

I’d rate The Available Wife an 8/10.

The story was wild, full of twists and drama, and definitely kept my attention. I’d recommend it—especially if you like messy, suspenseful storylines.
