Movie Review: Run (Tubi Original)

Movie Review: Run (Tubi Original)

I decided to give Run a chance for two reasons: first, I’m a big fan of science fiction, and second, I’m familiar with several of the actors — they’ve appeared in multiple Tubi films I’ve enjoyed. So I figured, why not?

Let’s dive in.

The movie starts with a wedding that doesn’t happen, which leads the women to take a girls’ trip.
Sounds promising — until aliens take over the world. The story is set in the present day, but realistically, everyone would have their phones on them (and charged most of the time). The lack of phone use or communication felt inconsistent and pulled me out of the story.

Another issue: the aliens were already around before the women arrived at their Airbnb, yet it took forever for them to reappear. That gap in logic made the pacing feel off.

Now, about the acting. Honestly, it was pretty cringe at times. Most of these actors are usually in dramas or thrillers, but true sci-fi requires a different energy and depth — and it showed. The only believable performance, in my opinion, came from Brandy. Her reactions and emotions actually felt like how a real person would respond in that situation.

The actress who played Jenny seemed irritated to even be there, and there was no chemistry between her and the rest of the cast. Even off-screen, she doesn’t come across as having the best attitude, so that might’ve bled into her performance. Thankfully, she’s the first to die in the film, so we don’t have to deal with her for long.

The idea that flashing a phone light into an alien’s face could somehow hurt or stop it was… underwhelming. Then there’s the ending: when the president orders an airstrike because there’s no way to defeat the aliens, the characters spend their final 12 hours making bombs and trying to survive — which makes no sense since their fate was already sealed.

To give credit where it’s due, the alien design and animation were actually solid. They looked fairly realistic, though by now, most viewers know modern “aliens” in film tend to resemble humans and only reveal their true forms once their mission is complete.
The ending, however, was just messy. As the airstrikes begin, the lead character screams for help, supposedly trying to escape or get rescued — but it’s already too late. The movie ends abruptly, leaving you more confused than emotional.

Overall, Run had potential, but it completely missed the mark for me. I give it a 4 out of 10. I really wanted to love this one, but the weak writing, uneven acting, and lack of logic made it hard to enjoy.
